When N. Chandrasekaran left Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to take charge as chairman of Tata Sons, he took Subramanian, then executive director of TCS, with him. In 2015, Subramanian had become the first woman employee to make it to the TCS board. She will now oversee the group’s digital transformation. “As the group chief digital officer, she will play a key role in driving digital adoption across group companies,” said Chandrasekaran in July, when he announced her appointment.
