JSW MG Motor India has partnered with several charge point operators to launch a unified EV charging app in an effort to boost EV charging ecosystem in the country.
Called eHUB by MG, the unified charging app aims to simplify the EV charging experience for customers nationwide by providing them with a single platform.
“eHUB by MG is a one-stop solution for EV charging, simplifying the process of locating, reserving, and paying for charging stations. With access to the almost entire charging network of the country through partnerships with leading providers like Adani Total Energies Limited (ATEL), BPCL, Chargezone, Glida, HPCL, Jio-BP, Shell, Statiq, Zeon, and many others who shall be on-boarded soon,” the automaker says.
The app will be available in 11 languages and equipped with trip-planning features.
To be clear, EV chargers operated by Tata Power cannot be used through the eHUB app.
The SAIC Motor-backed carmaker has also partnered with Jio to launch the MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (MG-Jio ICP), which will be standard in all upcoming MG vehicles. This is a technology stack which introduces the MG App Store for in-car gaming, entertainment, and learning, voice capability in six Indian languages, and a functionality that displays car information on TV screens at home.
“With initiatives such as our unified charging platform, battery second-life project, EV education, and the MG-Jio ICP, we are empowering the industry as well as our customers with smarter, more sustainable choices,” says Gaurav Gupta, chief growth officer at JSW MG Motor India.
The company also introduced Project REVIVE, an initiative in partnership with TERI, Lohum and BatX, aimed at repurposing EV batteries beyond cars to provide a second life as renewable energy storage systems for sustainable community applications.
“This initiative promotes a circular economy, a system aimed at eliminating waste and the continual use of resources through principles of reuse, repair, and recycling, and supports India's clean energy goals,” it says.
JSW MG Motor India announced sales of 4,572 units in July 2024. The company’s electric vehicle portfolio accounts for more than 35% of the total units sold during the month. The carmaker is gearing up for its next launch, a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) ‘Windsor’, in the forthcoming festive season.
JSW MG Motor India, in which JSW Group owns a 35% stake, aims to sell 1 million electric vehicles in India by 2030.
The carmaker plans to significantly increase its production capacity from 1 lakh units currently to 3 lakh vehicles annually at its plant in Halol, Gujarat.
