Tata Motors on Wednesday launched the Curvv.ev. at a starting price of ₹17.49 lakh. The Curvv marks the company’s entry into the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment.
Bookings for the Curvv EV open from August 12 while deliveries begin on August 23.
The Curvv EV is the second product on Tata Passenger Electric Mobility’s (TPEM) advanced Pure EV architecture – acti.ev.
The top variant of the Curvv EV, which comes with a 55-kilowatt hour (kWh) battery pack offers a claimed range of 585 km on a single charge, is priced at ₹19.25 lakh. The 45 kWh entry variant has a claimed range of 502 km.
The Curvv.ev offers an estimated real-world range of 400-425km with its largest battery pack of 55kWh, says Shailesh Chandra, managing director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd.
Its fast charging capability ensures a top-up of 150km range in just 15-minutes, Chandra says.
Tata Motors also showcased the Curvv in multiple powertrains options like petrol and diesel. The prices of the ICE (internal combustion engine) variants will be announced next month.
The launch of the Curvv EV comes at a time when Tata Motors electric vehicle wholesales dropped by 21% to 5,027 units in July as against 6,329 units in the same month of 2023.
Tata Motors group chief financial officer P.B. Balaji attributed this decline in EV sales to the removal of incentives for fleet-operated passenger four wheelers and broad-based slowdown in car sales in the month of July.
With the launch of Curvv EV, the carmaker expects the momentum to build back in the EV business. “We expect it to recover from here on, especially with festive demand coming up,” said Balaji.
To ease charging anxiety, Tata Motors also introduced the Tata.ev Charge Point Aggregator – a network of over 9,000 charging points with live status availability integrated into the app.
Tata Motors reported a 74% year-on-year jump in its net profit at ₹5,566 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2024. Revenue from operations rose 5.7% year-on-year to ₹107,316 crore for the first quarter. Revenues from its luxury car unit JLR grew 5.4% to 7.3 billion pounds.
