Businessman Lalit Modi, who seems to be dominating social media ever since he revealed his relationship with Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen, has come out in his defence against those who have been trolling him. Modi, who conceptualised the world's richest sports league Indian Premier League (IPL), took social media by storm last week when he announced he and the Aarya actor were together but are yet to exchange vows.
He shared many pictures with the Bollywood star from their trip to Maldives and Sardinia. However, they both were subjected to trolling on social media. Both of them, however, shared their opinions defending their relationship and slammed those indulging in negative coverage.
In his latest Instagram post, the businessman accuses the media of obsessing about trolling him. " Can someone explain - I only did 2 pics on insta - & Tag is correct.I GUESS We R still living in the Middle Ages that 2 people can’t be friends & then if chemistry is right & timing is good - Magic can happen (sic)," says the tycoon.
Talking about his late wife Minal Modi, he says: "...departed love of my life #minalmodi was MY BEST FRIEND for 12 years whilst she was married. She was not my mothers friend. That gossip was spread by vested interests. It’s about time to get out of this #crabmentality - hope u know what that means. (sic)"
Lalit Modi says that he created the brand IPL "all alone”. As per Lalit Modi, he was born with a "diamond spoon" and he never needed to take a bribe or a government favour. He says during his tenure as IPL chief, the value of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) value rose exponentially. "I joined on my birthday nov 29 2005. Guess what was in the bank when I was BANNED - 47,680 crores - that 17 billion usd. (sic)"
Under Lalit Modi's chairmanship, India hosted its first mega sporting event IPL in 2008. However, this association with the BCCI didn't last long. He was removed as the league chairman after the 2010 IPL on the charges of financial irregularities. In 2013, he was banned by the BCCI for life after he was found guilty of the charges. The tycoon later moved to London and has been living in the country ever since.
Modi, a scion of a leading business family, is part of Modi Enterprises, which includes companies like Indofil Industries and Godfrey Phillips India. The $1.5 billion-plus worth group is in a diverse range of businesses, which include agro, specialty and performance chemicals, tobacco, pan masala, mouth fresheners, confectionery, retail, education, cosmetics, among others.
Sushmita Sen had also slammed trolls, saying the "so called intellectuals with their idiosyncrasies….the ignorant with their cheap & at times funny gossip. The friends I never had & the acquaintances I’ve never met….all sharing their grand opinions & deep knowledge of my life & character…monetising the ‘Gold Digger’ all the way!!! Ah these geniuses!!! (sic)"
