Video: Decoding the Modi 2.0 ministry

In May, when the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) stormed back to power with a landslide victory, it was a bit of a surprise. While most political pundits were expecting the incumbent government to come back, but that the numbers would be so high was predicted by few.

Now back at the centre, with some big names in the cabinet, the pressure to bring the economy back on track and address the slowdown in growth is high.

The Prime Minister’s A-team this time has India's first women finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, petroleum and steel minister Dharmendra Pradhan, road transport and small and medium and micro industries minister Nitin Gadkari, and railways and commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal. Amit Shah has been appointed the home minister, while Rajnath Singh has taken charge of defence.

There are also new faces like former diplomat S. Jaishankar, who has been named the new external affairs minister.

Editor Sourav Majumdar and deputy editor Aveek Datta discuss the BJP-led NDA’s win, and the key ministers in the new cabinet, who will define India’s social and economic journey in the next five years.
