20 countries, including India, which represent 50% of the global population, account for over 80% of these excess deaths between January 2020 to December 2021, says the WHO.
The WHO guideline emphasises the use of respirator along with other PPE by health workers performing aerosol-generating procedures.
The session will establish an intergovernmental negotiating body to draft the instrument. This body is expected to submit its outcome for consideration by the 77th World Health Assembly in 2024.
