Future group's distribution centre in Mihan, on the outskirts of Nagpur, is spread across 400,000 sq. ft., and is dedicated to the retail giant’s non-food categories, such as apparel, footwear, furniture, general merchandise, and home furnishing. It spans more than eight football fields and can handle more than 500,000 parcels a day. With its centralised location, Nagpur is 48 hours by road from the top eight consumption centres in India. In March 2013, Future group, ranked 98 on the Fortune India 500, set up this centre to consolidate the operations of 16 smaller distribution centres. The idea was to gear up for the Goods and Services Tax regime expected in 2016. The Indian retail market is estimated to be worth Rs 38 lakh crore (according to the India Retail Forum), and Future Group has the lion’s share of the organised part of this market.
