"The biggest turning point in my career is my current role at Netflix": Shergill
Monika Shergill, Vice-President (Content), Netflix India, is especially proud that Indian shows such as AK versus AK and Haseen Dilruba did especially well on the global stage in the past year. Haseen Dilruba became popular in 22 countries, while AK versus AK became popular in 40-odd countries. She says that a key part of her journey at Netflix in the past two years has been to make her global team understand the value of stories from India. At a time when the streaming service provider is going out of its way to bring diversity in its story-telling by putting together a diverse team (which is not just gender diverse, but also has representation from diverse cultures, religions and ethnicities), Shergill believes that diversity comes naturally to Indians. “In India, diversity is organic. Internationally, we talk about this a lot more, but in India we come from diverse cultural backgrounds and we speak different languages. We also do programming in a variety of languages.”
