The festive-season discount race has entered a new phase in October, with carmakers and dealers revising schemes as Dussehra and Diwali approach. While some models are carrying higher headline benefits than they did in September, others have seen incentives trimmed, replaced or made more conditional.

For buyers, that means the offer available on a particular car a few weeks ago may no longer be the same. Dealer-level information also shows that the maximum advertised benefit is often a combination of cash, exchange, scrappage, loyalty, corporate or finance-linked incentives rather than a straight reduction in the vehicle's price, according to a senior official of a leading carmaker.

Maruti Suzuki leads October discount reset

Maruti Suzuki has rolled out a fresh festive-season offer structure across its Nexa range. Dealer-market information from Delhi-NCR shows the Grand Vitara carrying benefits of up to ₹1.36 lakh on select variants, comprising consumer, exchange or scrappage, loyalty and other applicable benefits. Strong-hybrid versions also carry a road-tax benefit of up to ₹1.85 lakh in applicable markets, although this is not a direct cash discount, according to multiple dealers.

Dealer sources have also revealed that the Fronx gets benefits of up to ₹27,100 on the turbo-petrol version, while the 1.2-litre petrol and CNG versions carry benefits of up to ₹22,100 and ₹15,000, respectively. The XL6 gets up to ₹61,000 on petrol variants and ₹50,000 on CNG, while the Invicto carries benefits of up to ₹95,000.

Hyundai raises benefits on key models

Hyundai has also revised its October festive-season structure. Dealer-market information shows benefits of up to ₹1.15 lakh on the Creta, ₹1.25 lakh on the Creta N Line and ₹1.05 lakh on the Verna. The October package also includes a Navratri booking bonus on select models, while the Venue continues with a ₹5,000 benefit.

The October Creta benefit is higher than the ₹1 lakh maximum reported in September dealer listings, indicating a step-up in incentives on the SUV as the festive season moves into its peak, according to dealer sources.

Tata keeps big benefits on select EVs

Tata Motors is also offering revised benefits across selected models. October dealer-market information shows the Curvv carrying benefits of up to ₹1.25 lakh, while select Nexon petrol variants get up to ₹75,000 and the Nexon CNG up to ₹60,000.

The electric portfolio continues to carry some of the largest headline benefits. The Curvv EV remains eligible for benefits of up to ₹3.35 lakh, while select Harrier EV variants carry up to ₹2.75 lakh. These packages can include green bonuses, exchange or scrappage benefits and loyalty incentives, according to dealer sources.

Mahindra's offer strategy remains more model- and stock-specific. Dealer sources indicate benefits across select SUVs, including the XUV 3XO, Scorpio N and Thar Roxx, with the actual package varying according to variant, model year, inventory and dealership.

The company's September festive offers had carried maximum benefits of around ₹2.5 lakh across select SUVs. October dealer-level offers, however, are increasingly dependent on individual vehicle availability rather than a single portfolio-wide headline figure.

Honda, Toyota and Kia revise offers

Honda's Elevate continues to carry one of the more substantial dealer-level packages, with October listings showing benefits of up to around ₹2.45 lakh on select variants in some markets. The City and City Hybrid also have dealer-specific benefits, although the package varies according to variant and location.

Toyota continues to offer model-specific schemes on vehicles such as the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Glanza and Taisor, with dealer-level benefits varying according to stock, variant and customer eligibility.

Kia's October scheme shows a mixed picture. The Carens Clavis carries benefits of up to ₹95,000, while the Clavis EV gets up to ₹75,000. The Sonet gets up to ₹65,000, Syros up to ₹55,000 and the regular Carens up to ₹45,000, according to dealer sources. The Seltos has a more limited package of up to ₹40,000, while the recently launched Sorento carries benefits of up to ₹40,000.

October offers are increasingly targeted

The October festive market points to a more nuanced discounting environment than a simple race to offer the biggest number. “Dealers are using combinations of exchange, scrappage, loyalty, corporate, finance and booking incentives to target specific customers and manage particular stocks,” said a former auto dealer body official, requesting anonymity.

To be sure, most of the carmakers were approached for comments on their October offers, but company spokespersons did not respond. The figures cited in this story have been gathered from authorised dealer sources and dealer-level offer information and may vary by city, variant, model year, stock and customer eligibility.

For buyers, therefore, the most useful question this October may not be simply, “Which car has the biggest discount?” but rather, “What is the actual benefit I can get on the exact variant I want?”

With Dussehra and Diwali approaching, that distinction could make a meaningful difference to the final price paid at the dealership.
