India, being Claude AI’s second biggest market, the appointment comes at a time where AI firms are looking at increasing industry partnerships for AI application building and deployment

American artificial intelligence company Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former Open AI employees, and the developer of the large language model- Claude has appointed Irina Ghose as the new Managing Director of India. This comes at a time when AI companies have started focusing on how to put the models to use to solve enterprise problems and other problems at scale.
Irina Ghose, a two-decade veteran at Microsoft has severed in several key positions including as the COO, before heading as the MD of Microsoft India , is a key hire given her exposure to enterprise AI play in major Indian industries including BFSI, manufacturing, healthcare, technology services, and government. In a prepared statement by the company, she said that India has a real opportunity to shape how AI is built and deployed at scale. “Indian organizations are moving beyond experimentation toward applied AI, where trust, safety, and long-term impact matter as much as innovation. Anthropic’s mission resonates with my belief that technology should empower people, expand access, and create lasting value across India’s diverse languages and communities,”, said Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India, Anthropic.
This comes at a time when Anthropic is strengthening its leadership board where in in October last year it brought in Rahul Patil, former CTO of Stripe to join as the company’s Chief Technology Officer. Prior to that, it got Paul Smith from ServiceNow, as the company’s first Chief Commercial Officer, and Chris Ciauri as Managing Director of International. More recently during his October 2025 visit to India where Dario Amodei, CEO and Co-founder of Anthropic, met with the Prime Minister of India also announced its expansion of global operations to India and opening of its India office in Bengaluru. Its second office in the Indo-Pacific region, following Tokyo, Japan. With the Amodei and several senior executives visiting India this February for India AI Impact Summit, he is also expected to officially open Anthropic’s office in Bengaluru.
With India being the second biggest market just behind US in use of Claude globally , according to the company’s latest Anthropic Economic Index report that captures AI adoption, saw India's use of Claude AI for largely technical tasks and software development, Debug, fix, customize web applications and websites and to complete academic assignments and create educational materials across all subjects. The company is also investing heavily in advancing Claude’s Indic language capabilities, prioritizing model training in languages including Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu. Claude will also work on enhanced performance in Hindi for consumer interfaces.
In September 2025, the company completed a Series F fundraising of $13 billion, at $183 billion post-money making it one of the world’s top valued AI firms. The Series F investment round was led by ICONIQ co-led by Fidelity Management & Research Company and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The other significant investors in the round included Altimeter, Baillie Gifford, affiliated funds of BlackRock, Blackstone, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, General Atlantic, General Catalyst, GIC, Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Jane Street, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Qatar Investment Authority, TPG, T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., T. Rowe Price Investment Management among others.
