PM Modi to inaugurate SEMICON India on September 17; 600 exhibitors to showcase semiconductor ecosystem

The fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026, the country’s flagship semiconductor and electronics exhibition and conference, will be held from September 17 to 19 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the event on September 17.

The three-day event, organised jointly by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and SEMI, is expected to bring together global semiconductor companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, startups, and students. 

With the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, the event will feature more than 600 exhibitors, including 300 international companies, across 15,000 square metres of exhibition space. More than 150 speakers are expected to participate in discussions covering key developments across the semiconductor and electronics industry.

The event will also feature six country pavilions and 12 state government pavilions, along with dedicated platforms for startups, innovation, workforce development, and students. 

Focus on entire semiconductor value chain 

SEMICON India 2026 will take a value-chain approach, covering areas ranging from semiconductor materials and manufacturing to advanced packaging, chip design, electronics and systems. 

A new ‘Sand to Silicon to Systems’ Value Chain Experience will showcase India’s capabilities across different stages of the semiconductor ecosystem. The Startup Pavilion will feature around 40 startups while an Innovation Showcase, startup pitch competition, student hackathon and Workforce Development Pavilion will highlight innovation and talent development in the sector.  

Global semiconductor majors to participate 

The event will include keynotes, panel discussions, and strategic sessions on semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, advanced packaging, supply-chain resilience, materials and equipment, chip design, research and development, startups and talent development.

International and Indian companies expected to participate include ASML, Applied Materials, Teradyne, Infineon, Ebara, Jabil, IBM Research, NXP, Tata Electronics, Micron, Merck KGaA, Rapidus, Lam Research, CG Power, Uno Minda, Advantest, and Tokyo Electron. 

The programme will also include six international country roundtables, a session on women empowerment and leadership, a workforce development session and a discussion on collaboration among industry associations for India’s electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector.

Under the Semicon India Programme, the government has approved 12 semiconductor projects aimed at building a domestic semiconductor ecosystem. Three of the projects approved under the first phase of the programme have now commenced commercial production. 

The Cabinet has also approved Semicon 2.0, the next phase of the programme, with six major pillars aimed at accelerating the development of the semiconductor ecosystem.

India’s semiconductor opportunity 

The global semiconductor industry is undergoing rapid expansion, driven by artificial intelligence, advanced computing, electric mobility, telecommunications, and other emerging technologies. At the same time, companies and governments are seeking more diversified and resilient supply chains. 

India is seeking to position itself as a trusted destination for semiconductor design, manufacturing, research and investment, backed by government incentives, a large talent pool and growing domestic demand. 

The global semiconductor market was valued at around $796 billion in 2025 and is projected to cross $2 trillion by 2030. India’s semiconductor demand, estimated at around $50 billion currently, is expected to reach about $103 billion by 2030.
