One-way economy class air fares have zoomed up to ten times the normal fares on majority routes, as airlines seem to have resorted to predatory pricing amidst the crisis triggered by IndiGo cancellations.

This is despite a warning issued by civil aviation minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu yesterday during a review meeting with the IndiGo management.

It may be noted that no IndiGo flight options are available for booking for the next couple of days. The maximum price listed on travel portal is of Delhi- Bengaluru route, which has soared up to ₹92,000.

Delhi–Mumbai fare (₹25,000-₹66,000)

For a Delhi-Mumbai economy class ticket, one will have to shell out anywhere between ₹25,000 and ₹66,000 for travel on the sector on the date, as per the options listed on EaseMyTrip.com. On the Mumbai – Delhi sector on the same day, one way economy class fares range between ₹23,589 and ₹53,000.

It may be noted that this is more or less the range economy ticket prices across travel booking platforms like makemytrip.com and ixigo.com among others, with minor variations.

Delhi-Patna @ ₹47,000

Take for example the Delhi-Patna route. Under normal circumstance, a ticket booked two days in advance would have cost around ₹5,500-6000. However, for travel on Sunday, December 7, the prices listed on EaseMyTrip.com range between ₹24,999 (Air India Express) and ₹47,224 by Air India.

The platform is showing only four flights for the sector on the day, including two Air India options and one each by Air India Express and SpiceJet.

No respite on other sectors

One way tickets for Delhi-Kolkata ranges between ₹31,873 and ₹57,667 on the date, while a Kolkata – Delhi flight tickets are listed between ₹22,712 and ₹59,799. Similarly, one way economy ticket price on Delhi – Bengaluru route is listed from ₹24,999 to a whopping ₹92,669.

It may be noted that in a review meeting yesterday with the management with the IndiGo airlines, civil aviation minister had warned against hiking of the fares by the airlines to take advantage of the situation. Looks like that advisory fell on deaf ears.
