A walk through Omega's giant leap

There are few watches that have shaped history quite like the Omega Speedmaster. Long before it became a coveted collector's piece, the legendary chronograph secured its place in history as the first watch worn on the Moon during NASA's Apollo 11 mission in 1969. Now, Omega is bringing that extraordinary legacy closer to Indian audiences with its first-ever immersive Speedmaster installation, a travelling experience that transforms one of mankind's greatest achievements into an interactive journey.

Making its India debut, the installation will travel across New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, recreating the spirit of the Apollo era through life-sized replicas of the iconic Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) and Neil Armstrong's spacesuit. Set against a meticulously crafted lunar landscape, the experience invites visitors to step onto a reimagined Moon surface while exploring the remarkable story of the Speedmaster Moonwatch and Omega's enduring partnership with space exploration.

At the heart of the installation is the Lunar Roving Vehicle, one of the defining engineering feats of NASA's Apollo programme. Introduced during the agency's final three lunar missions, the electric-powered rover dramatically expanded the scope of exploration by enabling astronauts to traverse greater distances across the Moon's rugged terrain.

Ingeniously designed to fold into the Lunar Module during launch before unfolding on the lunar surface, the vehicle carried astronauts, scientific equipment and precious lunar samples. Equipped with sophisticated navigation and communication systems, it remained operational for more than 78 hours, forever changing the scale of lunar discovery. Today, the original rovers remain on the Moon, silent monuments to human ingenuity and ambition.

Standing alongside the rover is an intricately recreated Apollo spacesuit, inspired by the one worn by Neil Armstrong during humanity's historic first steps on the lunar surface. More than a replica, it serves as a tribute to the courage, determination and scientific vision that defined the Apollo missions and ushered in a new era of exploration.

Together, these installations recreate the atmosphere of one of history's most defining moments, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the story of mankind's journey beyond Earth. The experience extends beyond the exhibits, with dedicated showcases tracing the evolution of the Omega Speedmaster and its enduring place in horological history. Visitors will also have the opportunity to capture photographs against the recreated lunar landscape, making the exhibition as memorable as it is educational.

The travelling installation will be showcased at Ambience Mall, Gurugram (July 6-July 20), Palladium, Mumbai (August 1-August 10), DLF Emporio, New Delhi (August 21-August 31), and later at UB City/Mall of Asia, Bengaluru.
