Amid several adjournments of both houses of Parliament due to disruptions by the opposition, the BJP today issued a whip for all its Lok Sabha MPs to be present in the House for the passage of the budget tomorrow.

“All BJP members in Lok Sabha are hereby informed that guillotining of various demands for grants 2025-26 will be taken up for passing in the House on Friday. All members of BJP in Lok Sabha are, therefore, requested to be positively present in the House throughout the day and support the government's stand,” the party said in its letter.

The government invokes guillotine—a parliamentary procedure to expedite the passage of a bill without any further debate—when it needs to pass a bill. The second leg of the budget session began on March 10 and will continue till April 4.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha faced several adjournments and were adjourned for the day at 2 pm today. The adjournments were caused by disruptions from opposition parties, including the DMK, against the proposed delimitation exercise by the Centre.

Delimitation is the process of redrawing constituencies in line with demographic changes. Under delimitation, the number of seats and boundaries of each Lok Sabha and state legislative assembly constituency will be revised based on the first census after 2026. The delimitation exercise has been conducted four times in the country. The DMK is wary of the exercise as it fears the number of parliamentary seats in Tamil Nadu may be reduced.
