The HSBC Hurun Global Indians list 2024 highlights the immense impact of Indian-origin leaders, with Satya Nadella at the forefront of global business.

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, leads the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024, followed by Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, and Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, according to the latest data released today. The companies led by these global Indian leaders have amassed a staggering $10 trillion in value.

The purpose of the list is to celebrate the contributions of the Indian diaspora to the global economy. It features 226 CEOs, managing directors, and founders from 200 companies, all operating outside of India. Notably, the list includes 12 women who have made their mark on the global business stage.

Among the Indian-origin leaders, Nadella and Pichai are recognised as two of the most influential figures in the world. The list also highlights prominent names from the 2024 Hurun India Rich List, with L.N. Mittal & family taking the lead with ₹1,84,500 crore, closely followed by Gopichand Hinduja & family at ₹1,78,600 crore.

ArcelorMittal, owned by L.N. Mittal & family, reported a net income of $919 million in 2023, a sharp decline from $9.3 billion in 2022, due to the sale of its underperforming plants in Kazakhstan and Italy at a loss.

The Hinduja Group, under the leadership of the Hinduja family, has diversified its business across sectors including Mobility, Digital Technology, Media & Entertainment, Infrastructure, Energy, Real Estate, and Healthcare.

“The HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024 celebrates the significant achievements of Indian-origin leaders who helm some of the world’s most valuable companies. The list reveals that 62% of these leaders studied in India, with almost a quarter of them graduating from the IITs, highlighting the importance of quality Indian education in shaping global business leadership,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, founder and chief researcher of Hurun India.

In March 2023, Mukesh Ambani, chairman and MD of Reliance Industries, ranked first among the richest Indians with a net worth of $82 billion, according to the M3M Hurun Global Rich List. Ambani was the only Indian in the top 10, holding the 9th spot globally, while Gautam Adani secured the second spot among India’s richest billionaires, despite a net loss of $28 billion.
