Shares of SBI Funds Management made a positive debut on the stock market on Tuesday after the company's ₹9,813-crore initial public offering (IPO) garnered overwhelming investor demand. The IPO of the asset management arm of SBI Mutual Fund, which was open for subscription from July 14 to July 16, was subscribed 41.66 times and received bids worth nearly ₹2.98 lakh crore, making it India's fifth-largest IPO by bid value.

The market capitalisation (m-cap) of India's largest asset management company increased by around ₹7,333 crore to ₹1.24 lakh crore, with nearly 8 crore shares changing hands on the exchanges. SBI Funds Management's market value stood at around ₹1.17 lakh crore before its listing.
The listing of the SBI Funds Management IPO was below Street expectations. Ahead of its debut, the stock was commanding a grey market premium (GMP) of about ₹95.5 per share, implying an estimated listing price of around ₹669.5 and an expected listing gain of roughly 16.6%.
The SBI Funds Management IPO received a robust response across investor categories. According to exchange data, investors placed bids worth nearly ₹2.98 lakh crore against the issue size of ₹9,813 crore. The offering ranks as India's fifth-largest IPO by bid value, behind Reliance Power, LG Electronics India, Bajaj Housing Finance, and ICICI Prudential Asset Management.
Institutional investors led the demand, with the qualified institutional buyers (QIB) portion subscribed 140.11 times. The non-institutional investor (NII) segment was subscribed 22.51 times, while the retail individual investor (RII) quota was booked 3.59 times. The employee and shareholder reservations were subscribed 4.65 times and 9.52 times, respectively.
Ahead of the IPO, SBI Funds Management raised ₹2,663 crore from 129 anchor investors at the upper end of the price band. The anchor book received demand of more than 20 times, with participation from several global institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds, and domestic mutual funds.
The public issue comprised entirely an offer for sale (OFS) by State Bank of India and Amundi India Holding, with the company receiving no proceeds from the IPO. At the upper end of the price band, SBI Funds Management was valued at around ₹1.17 lakh crore.
Large IPOs in India have delivered mixed listing performances in recent years. Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,859-crore IPO listed at a 7.16% discount in October 2024, while LIC's record ₹20,557-crore issue debuted 7.77% below its issue price in 2022. Paytm remains among the weakest large IPO debuts, with the stock falling 27.4% on its listing day in 2021.
More recently, listing outcomes have varied widely. Tata Capital's ₹15,512-crore IPO delivered a modest 1.38% listing gain, while HDB Financial Services rose 13.64% on debut. LG Electronics India emerged as one of the strongest recent listings, surging 48.24% on debut after attracting exceptional investor demand. SBI Funds Management's listed peer, ICICI Prudential Asset Management, had gained 19.44% on its debut in December 2025.
