Have nudged banks to build capital buffers in good times: Shaktikanta Das

Referring to the banking crisis in the U.S. and Europe, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das today said the RBI is closely monitoring the business models of the banks. Addressing an event in Mumbai, Das said, "Financial resilience is closely linked to banks' business model and strategy. RBI has started looking at business models more closely as aspects or deficiencies in the business models can spark a crisis in due course." Das pointed out that the RBI has nudged banks to build capital buffers at good times and the time of plenty.
