Kumar, who previously served as COO of LIC Mutual Fund, takes charge at a time when the asset management industry is undergoing a shift towards wider investor participation, technology-led distribution and operational efficiency.

LIC Mutual Fund Asset Management has appointed Ashis Kumar as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective September 26, 2026, putting the company’s operational leadership under an executive with more than three decades of experience across investments, business operations, distribution and marketing.
The appointment comes as LIC Mutual Fund looks to strengthen its product and distribution capabilities while using technology to improve scale, efficiency and the investor experience. Kumar, who was the company’s Chief Operating Officer before taking over as MD & CEO, had been involved in strengthening operational capabilities and driving business efficiency.
Before joining LIC Mutual Fund, Kumar held multiple senior positions at Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), including Chief (Investment) and Secretary (Investment) at LIC’s Central Office. He also held marketing roles, including Senior Divisional Manager at Bangalore Divisions and Regional Manager (Marketing) of LIC’s Karnataka Unit in the South-Central Zone.
His academic and professional credentials include a degree from St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, a Post Graduate Executive Programme from IIM Ahmedabad, fellowship of the Insurance Institute of India and an NSE certification as a market professional.
Kumar said the Indian asset management industry is at an important juncture and outlined a focus on investment outcomes, product and distribution capabilities, investor experience and technology-led scale.
“LIC Mutual Fund has a strong legacy, a trusted brand, and a growing presence across investor segments,” Kumar said, adding that the organisation would seek to build a “future-ready” business focused on long-term value creation for investors.
LIC Mutual Fund was established in April 1989 and is sponsored by LIC of India. The fund house currently offers around 43 schemes, comprising 17 equity schemes, nine debt schemes, six hybrid schemes, one solution-oriented scheme and 10 passive schemes, besides gold and fund-of-fund options.
The new leadership mandate therefore spans both the investment and distribution sides of the business, with the company specifically identifying product capabilities, distribution reach, technology adoption and operational efficiency as areas of focus.
