Google launches a new Virtual Apparel Try On tool in India

Google today rolled out a new tool for Indian online shoppers where one can virtually try apparel buy uploading a photo. The tool can be accessed by a new “Try it on” button in the apparel listing section of Google.

“Envisioning how an outfit will look on you while shopping online can be tough, especially during the busy festive season. Now shoppers in India can virtually try billions of apparel listings on themselves, just by uploading a photo,” the blog read.

How to do it?

The mode can be accessed in a few simple steps:

When you’re shopping on Google, tap the "try it on" icon on product listings.

Upload a full-length photo of yourself. According to Google, for best results, ensure it's a full-body shot with good lighting and fitted clothing. Within moments, the image is generated

Save or share the look with others — or tap to shop similar styles.

The feature is powered by Google’s custom AI model for fashion, which understands both the human body and nuances of clothing, like how different materials fold, stretch and drape on different body shapes. “So you can see how a piece of clothing would actually look on you from a single photo of yourself,” the statement said.

This tool launch in India comes after being launched in May earlier this year, as a part of the Shopping Graph initiative. The initiative uses AI at its core, with Gemini capabilities. As per an earlier Keyword blog, the Shopping Graph now has more than 50 billion product listings, from global retailers to local mom and pop shops, each with details like reviews, prices, colour options and availability. “And you know you’re getting fresh and accurate information you can trust, because every hour more than 2 billion of those product listings are refreshed on Google,” it read.

One can also track the price of the product through the Shopping Graph initiative. The new agentic checkout helps a customer buy at a price that fits the budget. By tapping “track price” on any product listing and set the right size, colour and the amount one wants to spend. “Keep an eye out for a price drop notification and, if you’re ready to buy, just confirm the purchase details and tap “buy for me”. Behind the scenes, we’ll add the item to your cart on the merchant's site and securely complete the checkout on your behalf with Google Pay,” the blog stated. This agentic checkout feature will be rolling out in the coming months to product listings in the U.S.
