Uttar Pradesh makes 65% of India's mobile phones, attracts over ₹60,000 crore in electronics, semiconductor investments

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as India's largest electronics manufacturing hub, producing nearly 65% of the country's mobile phones while accounting for around 55% of domestic electronics component manufacturing, according to the Uttar Pradesh government. The state said sustained policy support, expanding industrial infrastructure and rising investments have helped it strengthen its position in India's electronics and semiconductor value chain.

The government said Uttar Pradesh has attracted investments exceeding ₹28,000 crore from more than 75 companies under its electronics manufacturing policies. In addition, the state has secured approved semiconductor investments worth ₹32,146 crore, taking the combined investment pipeline in electronics manufacturing and semiconductors to over ₹60,000 crore.

Electronics manufacturing gains momentum

The Noida-Greater Noida industrial belt has emerged as the backbone of the state's electronics manufacturing ecosystem. Global smartphone brands such as Samsung, Oppo, Vivo and LG operate manufacturing facilities in Uttar Pradesh, while contract manufacturers including Dixon Technologies, Optiemus, Padget Electronics, Zetwerk and Bhagwati Products (Micromax) have expanded their production footprint in the state.

The component manufacturing ecosystem has also witnessed rapid growth, with companies including Samkwang, Holitech, KHY, Khvatec, Minda Corporation, JWorld, Shinsung C&T, Sunwoda and Dreamtech manufacturing products such as printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), displays and capacitors. Consumer electronics companies Haier and Panasonic have also expanded operations in the state.

The state government attributed the sector's growth to industry-focused initiatives such as the Electronics Manufacturing Policy-2017 and its subsequent amendments, along with the Uttar Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025.

Exports, semiconductor push strengthen ecosystem

According to the government, Uttar Pradesh's electronics exports have grown from negligible levels in 2015 to $2.58 billion in FY23, accounting for 16.65% of India's electronics exports. Smartphone exports from the state reached $17.5 billion in FY25, underscoring its growing role in global supply chains.

The semiconductor ecosystem has also received a boost with approved investments worth ₹32,146 crore, including the HCL-Foxconn Display Driver Chip Plant proposed near Jewar.

Beyond manufacturing, the state said it has strengthened its digital infrastructure through more than 1.85 lakh Common Service Centres (CSCs), which provide over 314 e-governance services. Uttar Pradesh also has a smartphone user base of over 24 crore, supporting domestic demand for electronics products.

Focus shifts to AI and advanced manufacturing

The Uttar Pradesh government said it is now focusing on attracting investments in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, robotics, drones, automation and advanced electronics. It added that improvements in logistics, industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce and ease of doing business are expected to support the state's ambition of becoming a global manufacturing and technology hub while generating employment and attracting fresh investments.
