BMW Group India reported its highest-ever first-half sales in the country, delivering 9,075 cars between January and June 2026, a 17% year-on-year increase, as robust demand for Electric Vehicles (EVs), long-wheelbase luxury models and Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) powered growth despite a challenging market environment.

The German luxury vehicle maker also recorded 17% growth in the April-June quarter, with deliveries of 4,507 cars. Electric mobility remained a key growth driver, with EV sales surging 78% year-on-year to 2,359 units, accounting for 26% of the company's total passenger vehicle sales during the six-month period.

EV portfolio powers growth; BMW retains leadership

BMW Group India said it continued to lead India's luxury electric vehicle market with a 69% market share in the segment. The company noted that one out of every four cars it sold in the first half of 2026 was an electric vehicle, underlining growing customer acceptance of premium electric mobility.

Commenting on the performance, Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, said the company achieved its strongest-ever first-half sales while maintaining consistent double-digit growth. He attributed the performance to rising customer confidence in the brand, accelerating EV adoption, sustained demand for long-wheelbase models and sports activity vehicles, and an aggressive product offensive. The company plans to introduce 14 additional products before the end of 2026 to sustain momentum.

Long-wheelbase models, SAVs continue to drive demand

BMW's long-wheelbase portfolio remained a key contributor to volumes, with sales rising 24% year-on-year to 4,428 units. These models accounted for 52% of the company's overall passenger vehicle sales during the first half, reflecting strong consumer preference for chauffeur-driven luxury offerings.

Meanwhile, sports activity vehicles emerged as another major growth engine. BMW and MINI together sold 5,926 SAVs in H1, marking a 35% increase over the year-ago period, with the segment contributing 65% of total sales volumes.

MINI, Motorrad register strong momentum

MINI posted one of the fastest growth rates within the group, with sales rising 70% year-on-year to 504 units. The newly launched MINI Countryman C witnessed encouraging demand, while all special editions introduced during 2026 were sold out. BMW Motorrad, meanwhile, delivered 2,327 motorcycles during the first half, with premium models such as the S 1000 RR, F 900 GS/GSA and R 1300 GS/GSA remaining among the top sellers.

Looking ahead, BMW Group India said it has already launched 11 new products in H1 2026 and intends to strengthen its product portfolio further with 14 additional launches this year. The company is also expanding its retail footprint through the Retail.NEXT format, with plans to add 19 new outlets across 18 cities, taking its premium customer experience closer to buyers nationwide.
