Maserati GranTurismo, GranCabrio: Engine and performance

The petrol-powered versions continue with Maserati’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo Nettuno V6. In the 490 versions, the engine produces 490hp and 600Nm, while the Trofeo gets a more powerful 590hp and 650Nm setup. The Trofeo’s output has increased by 50hp over the pre-facelift model. Both versions use an eight-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels, with the transmission recalibrated for quicker responses.

The GranTurismo 490 accelerates from 0-100kph in 3.9 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 302kph. The GranTurismo Trofeo cuts the sprint time to 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 320kph.

The GranCabrio 490 takes 4 seconds to accelerate from 0-100kph and has a top speed of 300kph. The Trofeo version is quicker, completing the sprint in 3.6 seconds and reaching a claimed 316kph.

GranTurismo, GranCabrio Folgore get longer range

The electric Folgore versions retain a 92.5kWh battery pack and a three-motor setup, with one electric motor at the front and two at the rear. The system produces a combined 761hp and 1,340Nm.

The GranTurismo Folgore accelerates from 0-100kph in 2.5 seconds and has a top speed of 325kph, while the GranCabrio Folgore takes 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 290kph.

The biggest mechanical change to the electric versions is a system that can disconnect the front motor when all-wheel drive is not required. Maserati claims this has helped increase the WLTP range from 450km to 540km.

The Folgore models support DC charging at up to 270kW, allowing the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in 18 minutes. AC charging is supported at up to 22kW.

New Country mode, air suspension standard

All versions of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio now get air suspension as standard. The base-spec and Folgore versions also receive a new Country drive mode, replacing the previous Comfort mode.

The new mode can increase ground clearance by 20mm at speeds of up to 120kph, with Maserati positioning it as a way to make the cars better suited to uneven road surfaces.

MCPura-inspired styling

The facelift brings the biggest visual changes to the front of both cars. The revised bumpers take inspiration from the MCPura, with reshaped air intakes and a redesigned splitter. The LED tail-lamps now feature clear-lens detailing.

The Folgore versions get slightly different air intakes and rear bumpers to distinguish them from their combustion-powered siblings.

Maserati has also expanded personalisation options through its Fuoriserie programme. New exterior paint options include Green Jupiter Matte, Blu Denim, Bronzo Lucido, Bronzo Matte, Grigio Mistero, Rosso Velluto and Oro Lirico. Customers can also specify Tridente alloy wheels with a gloss-black design inspired by the MCPura; these increase the cars’ track width by 10mm.

The GranCabrio continues with its fabric roof, which can open in 14 seconds and close in 16 seconds. With the roof down, boot capacity ranges between 151 litres and 172 litres.

Revised cabin and new technology

Inside, both models get a new race-inspired octagonal steering wheel with dark satin aluminium spokes, along with a redesigned digital clock featuring an octagonal metal rim and new graphics. The drive selector gets metal knobs, while the parking function is now integrated into the steering-wheel paddles.

Maserati has also added a system designed to monitor driver behaviour and fatigue. The infotainment setup includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen and an 8.8-inch lower display for climate controls, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Maserati’s Intelligent Assistant.

The updated GranTurismo and GranCabrio also get a 14-speaker Sonus faber audio system, three-zone climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting and heated front seats. The Modena V6 and Trofeo variants of the wider Maserati range receive Alcantara-wrapped steering wheels, while the GranTurismo and GranCabrio’s higher variants get additional personalisation options through the Fuoriserie programme.
