Mercedes-Benz India has commenced local production of the all-new Electric GLC 400 4MATIC at its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The electric SUV is the first locally manufactured Mercedes-Benz model based on the company’s next-generation MB.EA-M electric vehicle architecture.
The Electric GLC is priced at ₹78.50 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India), with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in mid-November 2026. Pune joins Mercedes-Benz’s plant in Bremen, Germany, as a production location for the all-electric GLC.
The launch marks an expansion of the German luxury carmaker’s electric vehicle manufacturing operations in India. Mercedes-Benz said it has invested an additional ₹200 crore in 2026 towards manufacturing operations, new product start-ups and digitisation of manufacturing processes. Its cumulative investment in India now stands at ₹3,200 crore, which the company describes as the highest by any luxury automaker in the country.
The Electric GLC is being manufactured on the same flexible production line as the company’s internal combustion engine (ICE) models. This allows Mercedes-Benz to manufacture vehicles with different powertrains at the same facility.
The company has sold more than 2.4 lakh vehicles in India so far, making it the largest luxury carmaker in the country by cumulative local sales. Its Chakan facility also works with nearly 20 direct suppliers in India and supports an estimated 18,000 people through suppliers and service providers in the region.
What is the electric GLC's range, performance and features?
The Electric GLC is the first Mercedes-Benz SUV in India to be built on the company’s MB.EA-M architecture. It comes with an 800-volt electrical architecture and is powered by a 94 kWh battery pack.
The dual-motor setup produces 360 kW (489 hp) of power and 800 Nm of torque, with an all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes-Benz claims the SUV can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4.3 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 210 kmph.
The Electric GLC offers a claimed range of up to 711 km on a combined WLTP cycle, as certified by ARAI. It supports DC fast charging at up to 330 kW, with the company claiming that the vehicle can gain up to 303 km of range in 10 minutes under optimal conditions.
The SUV also gets the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which supports features such as intelligent navigation, advanced driver assistance systems, over-the-air updates and personalised user experiences. Other highlights include a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, an illuminated grille with 942 pixels and a SKY CONTROL panoramic roof with illuminated stars.
Mercedes-Benz expands AI-led manufacturing and charging network
Mercedes-Benz India said its Chakan facility currently runs more than 15 live AI projects aimed at improving manufacturing quality, efficiency and decision-making. These include camera-based Vision AI systems to monitor quality in real time, data-driven supply chain models and AI-powered tools for workforce skilling.
Industrial robots are also deployed for processes such as welding, riveting and painting to improve accuracy and production reliability. The company has also expanded its solar capacity by 70% within a year as part of its efforts towards sustainable manufacturing.
On the charging front, Mercedes-Benz is introducing MB.CHARGE Public Charging Credits as an alternative to the complimentary AC wall box offered to new battery electric vehicle customers. Customers who voluntarily opt out of the wall box can avail 2,500 kWh of complimentary charging credits through the public charging service. The credits will remain valid for 24 months from activation. Mercedes-Benz’s MB.CHARGE Public network currently provides access to more than 22,000 charging points across India.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at the launch and production roll-out ceremony at the Chakan facility in Pune.
Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said, “India is a very important market for us, and we see tremendous potential ahead. A new generation of customers is choosing Mercedes-Benz, and we are bringing them our strongest product portfolio ever.”

At the same time, our engineers in India are contributing to the technologies shaping the future of Mercedes-Benz globally.
