Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPVL) has launched the all-new Tata Punch in South Africa in partnership with Motus Holdings, with prices starting at R224,900 (approximately ₹11.7 lakh). Announced in Johannesburg on October 29, the launch marks another addition to the Indian automaker's passenger vehicle portfolio in the African market. The SUV will be offered in three variants with two petrol engine options.
The South African launch comes as the Punch builds on its presence in India, where it has crossed 8 lakh customers and continues to rank among the country's highest-selling vehicles. The updated model features changes to its exterior styling, cabin and safety equipment, along with two engine options.
Prices range from R224,900 to R269,900
The entry-level Punch Pure+ 1.2-litre 5MT is priced at R224,900 (approximately ₹11.7 lakh), while the Adventure 1.2-litre 5MT costs R244,900 (approximately ₹12.7 lakh). The top-end Accomplished+ S 1.2-litre Turbo 6MT is priced at R269,900 (approximately ₹14 lakh).
The naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 65 kW of power and 115 Nm of torque and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The second option is a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine generating 88 kW and 170 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Six airbags offered across all variants
The new Punch comes with six airbags as standard across all three variants and carries a five-star Bharat NCAP rating for adult and child occupant protection. Other safety features include electronic stability control, Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control, real-time tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX child-seat anchorages.
Depending on the variant, the SUV gets an 8-inch touchscreen or a 10.25-inch HD Harman infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range. The equipment list also includes a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charging and front and rear USB-C charging ports.
Tata Motors looks to expand South African portfolio
Commenting on the launch, Thato Magasa, CEO of Motus Holdings for Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles' distribution business, said the Punch follows the recent introduction of the Tata Osprey in South Africa.
"Together, these models reflect our commitment to bringing globally proven, well-equipped and competitively positioned vehicles to the market while continuing to build momentum for the Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles brand," Magasa said.
Yash Khandelwal, head of international business at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the launch would extend the company's subcompact SUV offering in South Africa, combining safety, technology, contemporary styling and high ground clearance.
All three variants will be covered by a five-year/125,000-km warranty and a two-year/30,000-km service plan under the company's TataMove ownership programme. The package includes 24/7 roadside assistance and 72-hour mobility support.
