Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) will lead a partnership that brings together industry and academia from BRICS member countries to support the development and adoption of affordable and accessible medical technologies.

The BRICS BioDesign Programme, formally launched in New Delhi on September 11, is also supported by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Science & Technology Cluster.

“What makes this program special is its ability to bring countries, institutions and talent together to solve real healthcare challenges. By combining scientific capabilities and BioDesign expertise, it can accelerate the journey from ideas to products and ultimately to patients. I am confident it can become a lasting platform for innovation across BRICS and the GlobalSouth”, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, said.

The launch was marked by the exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) among the participating institutions. University of Cape Town (South Africa), Sechenov University (Russia), and the Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering (SBEB), Brazil are among the partner institutions.

The BioDesign Centre at AMTZ is expected to bring together innovators, researchers, healthcare professionals, industry and academia across BRICS to drive knowledge exchange, joint innovation and capacity building, accelerating the journey from BioDesign concepts to deployable medical technologies. Aligned with BRICS’ 2026 priorities on innovation, technology and resilient development, the Centre will try to help translate scientific capabilities into practical, scalable healthcare solutions.

Meanwhile, at AMTZ, the BRICS BioDesign Centre was launched at The Atrium as a platform for need-driven medical technology innovation, bringing together clinical, design, engineering, prototyping and translational capabilities across BRICS. The Centre will foster cross-border collaboration to develop affordable, scalable and impactful healthcare solutions. The gathering at AMTZ was attended by BRICS BioDesign representatives of BRICS Countries.
