ATF is one of the biggest operating costs for airlines, accounting for up to 40% of their total expenses. The latest increase is therefore expected to add to the cost pressures faced by carriers.

Commercial LPG reverses recent cuts

Commercial LPG prices were raised by ₹62.59 per 19-kg cylinder from October 1. The increase follows a ₹9.50 hike in September, after prices were cut by ₹192 in August and ₹183.50 in July.

Commercial LPG prices had surged to a record ₹3,113.50 per 19-kg cylinder in June amid disruptions to global energy supplies and elevated international prices. Between February and June, prices had risen by ₹1,373 from ₹1,740.50.

The latest revisions are based on movements in international benchmark prices and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. ATF and LPG prices are revised on the first day of every month and can vary across states because of local taxes, including VAT.

Domestic LPG, petrol, and diesel prices unchanged

Prices of domestic LPG, used by households, were left unchanged at ₹942 per 14.2-kg cylinder. Domestic cooking gas prices had risen by ₹89 per cylinder between March and June after the West Asia crisis disrupted supplies and pushed up international energy prices.

Petrol and diesel prices also remained unchanged. Both fuels were last increased by around ₹7.50 per litre in May.
