Bajel Projects Limited has secured its largest-ever transmission order worth approximately ₹1,500 crore, including GST, from Lakadia A Power Transmission Limited for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works on a major power evacuation project in Gujarat. The contract marks a significant expansion of the company's transmission portfolio as India steps up investments in infrastructure to integrate renewable energy into the national grid.
The project forms part of a wider transmission system designed to evacuate 14 GW of renewable power from three energy-rich regions in Gujarat — Lakadia, Jam Khambhaliya and Jamnagar. The infrastructure is expected to support the movement of electricity from renewable energy generation zones to the wider power network.
270 km transmission corridor to connect Halvad and Vadodara
The scope of work includes approximately 270 km of 765 kV double-circuit transmission lines between Halvad and Vadodara. Bajel Projects will also undertake additional works at the Halvad, Vadodara and South Olpad substations.
The project covers three phases of renewable power evacuation: 7.5 GW from Lakadia under Phase II, 5.5 GW from Jam Khambhaliya under Phase II and 1 GW from Jamnagar under Phase I. Together, these projects account for 14 GW of planned renewable power evacuation capacity.
The transmission corridor is expected to strengthen grid connectivity in Gujarat, enabling renewable energy generated in high-potential regions to be integrated into the national electricity network.
Bajel, NIIF-backed venture won transmission bid in August
Lakadia A Power Transmission Limited is a special purpose vehicle transferred by PFC Consulting Limited to AnantGrid Projects One Private Limited (AGPOPL) for developing the transmission system. AGPOPL is jointly owned by Bajel Projects, which holds a 26% stake, and the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), which owns the remaining 74%.
The venture won the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process for the project in August 2026. The latest awards position Bajel in a dual role: as an EPC contractor executing the infrastructure and as a shareholder in the project development entity.
Under Bajel Projects' internal order classification policy, contracts worth ₹400 crore and above, inclusive of GST, qualify as ultra-mega orders.
Transmission expansion key to India's clean energy ambitions
The project comes as India works towards its target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. Expanding transmission infrastructure is essential to connecting renewable energy generation sites with demand centres and managing the integration of additional clean power into the grid.
Commenting on the order, Rajesh Ganesh, managing director and CEO of Bajel Projects, said the contract reflected the company's execution capabilities and technical expertise. He also highlighted the collaboration between Bajel, NIIF and AnantGrid in developing infrastructure for large-scale renewable energy integration.
The order strengthens Bajel's position in India's power transmission and distribution sector, where grid expansion and renewable energy integration are creating demand for high-capacity transmission networks.
