Gautam Adani announced that the Navi Mumbai International Airport will be inaugurated in June, rescheduled from the earlier launch date of April 17. He made the announcement during his visit to the greenfield airport.

“Visited the Navi Mumbai International Airport site today—a world-class airport taking shape. Set for inauguration this June, it will redefine connectivity and growth,” said Gautam Adani in a post on his social media handles, sharing visuals from his visit to the airport.

The airport became operational with its first commercial flight validation test in December last year.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed in five phases, ultimately expected to handle over 90 million passengers annually. The greenfield airport will feature two parallel runways for simultaneous take-offs and landings, including a 3,700-metre runway capable of accommodating large commercial aircraft. In its initial phase, it will support 20 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and handle 800,000 tonnes of cargo.

The greenfield Navi Mumbai International Airport, the second major aviation hub in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, is being developed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL). The project is a 74:26 joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO).

Adani Airport Holdings is a 100% subsidiary of Adani Enterprises. The Adani Group entered the airport sector by winning bids for the operation, management, and development of six airports—Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati, and Thiruvananthapuram—through concession agreements with the Airports Authority of India. It also operates Mumbai airport. Adani airports now manage 25% of India’s passenger traffic and 33% of its air cargo.
