Gujarat leg of Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train to be completed by August 2027: Ashwini Vaishnaw

The Gujarat leg of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train is targeted for completion by August 2027, Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in Mehsana on Thursday. He added that ₹1.46 lakh crore has been invested in multiple railway projects across Gujarat.

While 87 railway stations are being completely redeveloped, old stations are being replaced with modern ones, and 332 flyovers and undercrosses have been built, Vaishnaw said at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference.

The 508.17-km-long Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor is India’s first bullet train project. The under-construction rail line will link Mumbai with Ahmedabad via 12 stations. On October 3, Vaishnaw and Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism, H. E. Hiromasa Nakano, visited the project’s construction sites in Surat and Mumbai.

Vaishnaw stated that the freight corridor in Gujarat has also been completed and is proving extremely beneficial. “Earlier, container trains used to take 30 hours, but now they take just 10-11 hours. Around 400 trains run daily on the eastern and western freight corridors alone,” he said.

Listing down the four major plants—Tata Electronics’ plant in Dholera, Micron’s plant in Sanand, CG Power & Renesas' facility in Sanand, and Kaynes' OSAT facility in Sanand—coming up in the state, Vaishnaw said, "Gujarat is emerging as a semiconductor hub, and the silicon made in Gujarat will reach across the world”. These plants represent an investment of ₹1.25 lakh crore in Gujarat, he noted.

Vaishnaw also spoke about the growth of the electronics manufacturing sector. "In the past 11 years, it has grown into an industry worth about ₹12 lakh crore, and electronics exports have now reached around ₹4 lakh crore," he said. The electronics component manufacturing scheme has received applications worth ₹1.15 lakh crore, he added.
