Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) arm of Reliance Industries, has expanded its Independence biscuit portfolio with nine variants and 28 new stock-keeping units (SKUs), intensifying its push in Tamil Nadu's packaged foods market. The expanded range, which spans everyday and indulgent consumption categories, will be available across the state from November 2, 2026.
The expansion is part of RCPL's strategy to scale up its biscuits business through a wider product portfolio, competitive pricing and an expanded distribution network. Tamil Nadu is a key market for the company, where increased production capacity is expected to support higher volumes and strengthen its consumer reach.
Nine variants, 28 SKUs across price points
The expanded portfolio includes Independence Power Up, Independence Butter Bliss, Independence Milky Power, Independence Marie Prime, Independence Coco Vanilla & Chocolate, Independence CremYum Orange, Independence CremYum Choco, Independence Coco Bourbon and Independence Glucose Boost.
The company is targeting different consumer segments through multiple pack sizes and price points. Trial packs will be available at ₹5, while sharing packs will be priced at ₹10. Larger home packs will retail between ₹40 and ₹125, allowing the brand to cater to both individual consumption and household purchases.
Leading the expansion are Independence Power Up and Independence Milky Power. Power Up combines milk, glucose and protein in a single biscuit, positioning it as a differentiated offering within the everyday biscuit category.
"Tamil Nadu is a key market for our biscuit business, and our focus is on expanding our portfolio to address evolving consumer preferences while building scale," said T Krishnakumar, Director, Reliance Consumer Products Limited.
He said the company was building on the familiarity of milk biscuits through a differentiated product combining milk, glucose and protein. The broader portfolio, he added, reflects the company's philosophy of 'Each Consumer, Each Occasion'.
RCPL is supporting the launch of Independence Power Up through a brand association with Ajith Kumar Racing. The partnership seeks to align the product's positioning with the performance-oriented ethos of motorsport while strengthening brand visibility and consumer awareness in Tamil Nadu.
Omnichannel distribution to widen consumer reach
The expanded portfolio will be distributed through general trade outlets, national and regional modern trade stores, e-commerce platforms, Reliance Retail and wholesale channels.
RCPL is pursuing a two-pronged strategy in the biscuits category. While Independence is positioned to drive scale through everyday and indulgent offerings, Maliban, its joint venture partner and a leading Sri Lankan biscuit manufacturer, will focus on differentiated and premium propositions. The combined approach is aimed at catering to diverse consumer preferences and consumption occasions.
