ShareChat's parent company Mohalla Tech has reported a 40% jump in operating revenue to ₹1,016 crore in FY26, up from ₹723 crore in the previous financial year, as its bet on micro dramas and subscription-led monetisation begins to pay off.

The Bengaluru-based company has also turned EBITDA positive in FY27, with a revenue run-rate of more than ₹1,500 crore by the end of the first half, putting it on course to report its first full year of profitability.

The company, which operates ShareChat, short-video platform Moj and micro-drama app QuickTV, narrowed its adjusted EBITDA losses by 58% to ₹91 crore in FY26, compared with ₹219 crore in FY25. It subsequently reported two consecutive quarters of positive EBITDA in FY27, while also recording four consecutive quarters of positive cash flows.

Mohalla Tech expects to close FY27 with an EBITDA of nearly ₹25 crore, marking a significant shift for the social media company after years of investing in building its platforms and controlling costs.

Micro dramas emerge as a solid revenue engine

A key contributor to the revenue growth has been the company's expansion into micro dramas, short-format episodic video content that it monetises through both advertising and subscriptions. The business has added a third revenue stream to its existing advertising and live-streaming operations.

Subscription revenue, driven by QuickTV and Moj+, contributed ₹293 crore in its first full year of operations. While this helped propel revenue growth in FY26, the company is now seeing advertising regain momentum as consumption of micro dramas expands across its platforms.

Daily micro-drama consumption on Moj and ShareChat has grown 6.5 times in the past 12 months to more than one billion views a day, creating a larger inventory of advertising opportunities. The company said its advertising revenue grew 40% year-on-year in Q2 FY27 and expects further acceleration during the festive season.

The free-to-watch, ad-supported micro-drama format has also helped widen its advertiser base, bringing brands that traditionally purchased premium video advertising slots on OTT platforms to a mass, multilingual audience across ShareChat and Moj.

Manohar Charan, co-founder and CFO of Mohalla Tech, said micro dramas had emerged as a powerful growth engine for the company, supported by its large audience base, content recommendation system and proprietary advertising technology.

"Our large audience base, sophisticated content recommendation system and a proprietary ad-tech stack puts us at a unique advantage, making us the only player capable of running a dual monetisation strategy of offering both AVOD and SVOD micro drama experience," he said.

Growth funded through internal cash flows

The improvement in profitability comes after the company undertook several years of cost discipline while working towards building a sustainable core business. It is now looking to fund its next phase of growth through internally generated cash rather than externa; capital.

"Now, we are EBITDA positive, generating cash, and funding the next phase of growth entirely from our own cash flows," said Ankush Sachdeva, co-founder and CEO of Mohalla Tech.

The company has more than 200 million monthly monetisable users across its platforms, giving it a sizeable audience base to build advertising and subscription businesses around. It operates ShareChat in 15 regional languages, alongside Moj and QuickTV.

However, sustaining the current growth trajectory while improving margins will remain important as the company scales its newer content businesses. Mohalla Tech said it would continue focusing on revenue growth and profitability, with advertising expected to gain further traction in the coming festive months.
