Tata Chemicals on Friday said its Kenyan subsidiary, Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited (TCML), has submitted all information and documentation sought by the country’s government and remains fully compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.

The statement comes amid media reports regarding remarks by Kenyan President William Ruto concerning the company’s century-old soda ash operations in the country.

Tata Chemicals shares opened at ₹629.15 on Friday, below the previous close of ₹641.95. The stock touched a high of ₹634.80 and a low of ₹624.15 during the session, while its VWAP stood at ₹628.34.

Tata Chemicals said it had received an official communication from Kenya’s Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs dated July 28, 2026. In response, TCML submitted the required information, reports and documentation to the ministry on August 11.

“There are media reports of the statements made by His Excellency the President of Kenya. The Company acknowledges the official communication received, continues to be letter from the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs (Ministry) dated July 28, 2026. We wish to reiterate, that on August 11, 2026, Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited (TCML) submitted all the required information, reports and documentation and TCML is fully compliant with the regulatory requirements,” it said in a regulatory statement.

The company said TCML’s submission included a comprehensive response to the issues raised by the ministry, including details concerning compliance with relevant regulatory requirements. The subsidiary is now awaiting the ministry’s review and further directions on the matter.

Tata Chemicals also highlighted the long-standing presence of its Magadi business in Kenya. It acquired the Magadi plant in 2005, and said the business has since made a significant contribution to the Kenyan economy while continuing to remain an important part of its operations.

The company said it respects the authority of the Kenyan government and intends to continue engaging with it through appropriate legal and regulatory channels to resolve the outstanding issues.

“Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited” is one of the key producers of soda ash in Kenya, with the Magadi operation having a long history in the country. Soda ash is used in industries including glass manufacturing, chemicals and detergents.

Tata Chemicals said its immediate priority is the well-being of its employees, the Magadi community and other stakeholders in Kenya, while also remaining committed to supporting the country’s continued economic development.
