Tata Group-owned Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) have signed a multi-hotel operating agreement for eight hotels with more than 2,000 rooms across Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Guwahati, as the airport operator expands its hospitality-led commercial development strategy.
The properties will operate under IHCL’s Taj, Vivanta, Gateway and Ginger brands, catering to luxury, upscale and mid-scale segments. Under the agreement, Adani Airports will develop the hotels, while IHCL will manage their operations. The projects will cater to business, leisure and transit travellers, with facilities spanning accommodation, dining, meetings and events, wellness and recreation.
The agreement comes as Adani Airport City Limited, formed by Adani Airports, plans to invest more than ₹20,000 crore in the first phase of its development programme, covering approximately 22 million sq. ft. across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati.
Three Taj hotels, two Vivanta properties in the pipeline
The portfolio comprises three Taj hotels, two Vivanta properties, one Gateway hotel and two Ginger hotels. Mumbai will have a Taj hotel at Terminal 2 of the airport, while Lucknow will get a Vivanta and a Ginger property. Ahmedabad will have a Taj and a Vivanta hotel, both in advanced stages of development. Guwahati will house a Taj, a Gateway and a Ginger hotel.
Jeet Adani, director of AAHL, said the partnership would support the development of airport-linked destinations that combine hospitality with commercial and lifestyle infrastructure.
“Across the world, leading airports are evolving into integrated destinations that serve as catalysts for commerce, tourism and urban growth. Our partnership with IHCL is an important step in this journey, bringing together our hospitality-led mixed-use destinations and India’s leading hospitality company to create world-class hotels across key airport cities with its brands including the iconic Taj,” he said.
“Together, we aim to strengthen the hospitality ecosystem within our Airport City developments and contribute to the long-term economic growth of the regions we serve,” Adani added.
Adani plans 22 million sq. ft. Airport City development
Adani Airport City Limited plans to develop a land bank of more than 655 acres across eight airports in seven states, including nearly 440 acres in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The first phase will cover six cities, with the company seeking to bring hospitality, retail, business and leisure infrastructure closer to airports.
“At Adani Airports, our ambition extends beyond operating airports to developing vibrant Airport Cities that bring together hospitality, business, retail and leisure, while enhancing the overall passenger and visitor experience,” Jeet Adani said.
The latest agreement takes AAHL’s partnerships with leading hotel brands to 15 hotels across its key airports in India, according to the release.
IHCL to have 25 hotels at key Indian airports
For IHCL, the agreement will strengthen its multi-brand presence at major aviation hubs. The company currently has a global portfolio of 660 hotels, including 274 in the pipeline, across four continents, 15 countries and more than 300 locations.
Puneet Chhatwal, managing director and chief executive officer of IHCL, said airport-centric developments were becoming important commercial and hospitality hubs as India strengthened its position in the global aviation market.
“Our partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Limited brings together two leading Indian companies with a shared vision to build India’s travel and tourism sector,” Chhatwal said. He added that the eight properties would address the needs of business and leisure travellers across hospitality segments. “With these additions IHCL will have 25 hotels across its brandscape at key airports in India,” he said.
