The forum comes at a time when MSMEs are increasingly being viewed as critical drivers of economic growth, employment generation and export competitiveness across emerging economies.

According to the ministry, India’s MSME sector comprises more than 8.6 crore enterprises and contributes over 31.1% to the country’s gross domestic product. The sector accounts for 35.4% of manufacturing output and nearly 48.6% of India’s exports while providing employment to millions across urban and rural regions.

The day-long programme will begin with an exhibition showcasing achievements and innovations from the MSME sector. This will be followed by the third SME Working Group meeting of BRICS members on the theme “Building MSME Ecosystem – Sustainable Roots to Global Routes.”

Industry associations and private-sector representatives from BRICS countries will also deliberate on key issues affecting small businesses, including access to finance, technology adoption and the growth of sustainability-oriented enterprises.

Senior government officials and delegates are expected to share policy experiences, best practices and successful case studies aimed at building resilient and globally competitive MSME ecosystems.

The ministry said the forum is expected to deepen cooperation among BRICS nations and create opportunities for knowledge sharing, partnerships and investment. Discussions are also likely to focus on how MSMEs can leverage digital technologies, innovation and sustainable business practices to expand their global footprint.

The initiative reflects the growing emphasis among BRICS countries on positioning MSMEs as key engines of economic resilience and inclusive growth amid evolving global trade and economic challenges.
