The review of Sebi will cover capital markets, alternative investment funds, venture capital and investor protection. Other subjects include financial sector regulation, investor protection, measures to prevent fraudulent practices and curb black money, and the Reserve Bank of India’s evolving role in the economy.

The committee will also examine strategies for price and currency stability, currency management, and the impact of imports on foreign exchange reserves.

Banking, insurance and tax reforms among 46 subjects

The banking and financial services agenda includes financial inclusion, emerging banking issues, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), pension sector regulation and payment and settlement systems. Health insurance will be examined in the context of universal coverage, affordability, claim settlement and policyholder protection.

The committee has also selected subjects relating to financial literacy, digitalisation, credit information accuracy, grievance redressal and cybersecurity in digital finance infrastructure.

On taxation, the agenda covers indirect tax reforms, with emphasis on GST simplification, rationalisation and ease of compliance. Direct tax reforms, tax litigation and customs risk management are also included. Other subjects include long-term public finances and debt, small savings schemes, direct benefit transfers, special assistance to states for capital investment and monetisation of public sector assets.

MPLADS committee selects six subjects

Separately, the Committee on Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) has selected six subjects for detailed examination in 2026-27.

These include enhancement of MPLADS funds, guidelines governing their release, timely monitoring and execution of works, and the feasibility of convergence with the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) scheme. The committee will also examine the functioning of facilitation centres and technological hurdles in fund disbursement through the E-SAKSHI portal.

To be sure, the bulletin sets out the subjects selected for examination during the year but does not provide findings or recommendations on them.
