The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP) has evaluated 293 infrastructure projects worth ₹13.59 lakh crore through its Network Planning Group (NPG) since its launch in October 2021, according to a written reply by Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Jitin Prasada, in the Lok Sabha.
Aimed at integrating and coordinating infrastructure planning, the Gati Shakti mission has onboarded 57 Central Ministries and Departments so far, including 8 infrastructure-related, 22 social sector, and 27 economic and other ministries. Additionally, 36 states and union territories have also been brought onto the platform.
Under the mission, a geospatial portal has been developed that hosts about 1,700 data layers, of which 969 are from States and UTs, and 731 from Central Ministries and Departments. These layers are used for mapping, planning, and evaluating infrastructure and socio-economic projects. While there is no specific budgetary allocation for PMGS, ₹5,000 crore was provisioned under the Finance Ministry’s capital investment scheme in 2022–23 for state-level infrastructure development aligned with GatiShakti objectives.

As India continues to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy, Fortune India presents its special issue on the nation’s Top 100 Billionaires. Curated in partnership with Waterfield Advisors, this year’s list reflects a slight decline in the number of dollar billionaires—from 185 to 182—even as the entry threshold for the Top 100 rose to ₹24,283 crore, up from ₹22,739 crore last year. From stalwarts like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and the Mistry family, who continue to lead the list, to major gainers such as Sunil Mittal and Kumar Mangalam Birla, the issue goes beyond the numbers to explore the resilience, ambition, and strategic foresight that define India’s wealth creators. Read their compelling stories in the latest issue of Fortune India. On stands now.
The NPG mechanism institutionalised under PMGS evaluates projects for inter-ministerial coordination, multimodal integration, and last-mile connectivity. The annual data shows that from 71 projects that were evaluated in 2022–23, the number has risen to over 121 projects in 2024–25. So far only 28 projects have been evaluated in this fiscal.
Despite the scale, funding remains a key aspect left to individual ministries and states, with PMGS functioning as a planning and coordination tool rather than a scheme with direct financial outlay.
