Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today appointed Bihar cabinet minister Nitin Nabin as its National Working President with immediate effect. Nabin is currently the road construction minister in Nitish Kumar’s cabinet. With the announcement, 45-year-old Nabin becomes the youngest ever BJP national president.
An official order issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh said, “BJP Parliamentary president has appointed Shri Nitin Nabin, Cabinet Minister, Bihar Government, as National Working President of the party. This appointment comes into immediate effect”. The announcement comes after multiple rounds of speculations over months, in which various names came up.
Immediately after his appointment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Nabin is a “hard working karyakarta”. In post on X, PM Modi said, “Shri Nitin Nabin Ji has distinguished himself as a hardworking Karyakarta. He is a young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience and has an impressive record as MLA as well as Minister in Bihar for multiple terms.”
“He has diligently worked to fulfill people’s aspirations. He is known for his humble nature and grounded style of working. I am confident that his energy and dedication will strengthen our Party in the times to come. Congratulations to him on becoming the BJP National Working President,” Modi added.

Congratulating Nabin, home minister Amit Shah said in a post on X, that Nabin has led his responsibilities towards the organisation with commitment and success. “As a five time MLA and a minister in the state government, Nabin has a long experience of public life,” Shah added.
At a one point of time, it seemed the party may hand over the reins to a woman leader belonging to South India, with an aim to spread the wings of the party beyond the Hindi belt.
Nabin, son of former BJP leader Kishore Prasad Sinha, entered into electoral politics after the death of his father in 2006 and won his first election during a by-election from Patna. He has been representing Bankipur seat and got re-elected in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025 assembly election. In the recently concluded Bihar assembly elections, Nabin defeated RJD candidate by a margin of 51,936 votes.
