After receiving an overwhelming response to its ₹290-crore initial public offering (IPO), MV Electrosystems made a strong stock market debut on Thursday. The stock listed at ₹519 on the BSE, a premium of 22.12% over the issue price of ₹425 per share, valuing the company at ₹1,415.97 crore. On the NSE, the shares debuted at ₹520, up 22.35%.

The buying momentum gathered pace through the session, with the stock closing at ₹624 on the NSE, up 46.82% over the issue price, while it settled at ₹622.75 on the BSE, a gain of 46.53%. The company's market capitalisation rose to ₹1,702.44 crore by the close of trade.

With this performance, MV Electrosystems became the third-best listing-day performer among 2026 mainboard IPOs, trailing only Bharat Coking Coal Ltd., which delivered a 77% gain on its debut, and Indo-MIM, which ended its first trading session 52.95% above its issue price. MV Electrosystems outperformed Kusumgar (44.26%), Advit Jewels (30.04%), CMR Green Technologies (29.11%) and Caliber Mining & Logistics (24.65%).

The listing exceeded Street expectations. Ahead of the debut, the stock was commanding a grey market premium (GMP) of around ₹109 per share, implying an estimated listing price of about ₹534, or a premium of 25.65% over the issue price.

The IPO, comprising an entirely fresh issue of shares, had attracted overwhelming investor interest. The issue was subscribed 188.85 times during the bidding period from July 30 to August 3, receiving bids for 75.30 crore equity shares against 39.87 lakh shares on offer.

The non-institutional investor (NII) portion was subscribed 374.58 times, followed by the retail category at 205.42 times and the qualified institutional buyer (QIB) segment at 90.47 times.

The company intends to utilise the IPO proceeds for capital expenditure, working capital requirements, repayment of borrowings and general corporate purposes.

Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth at Swastika Investmart Ltd., said MV Electrosystems delivered a strong listing with a 22% premium, reflecting positive investor sentiment. However, she noted that the company reported a weak FY26 performance, with revenue declining around 21% year-on-year and posting a net loss of ₹12.6 crore.

"The investment story now depends on improving execution and returning to profitable growth. Allotted investors can consider booking partial profits and hold the remaining position with a stop-loss at ₹470, while fresh investors should wait for consistent operational performance before entering," she said.

MV Electrosystems is a technology-driven company engaged in the design, development, assembly and manufacturing of electrical and power electronics equipment for railway rolling stock. Its product portfolio includes IGBT-based three-phase drive propulsion systems for electric locomotives, switchgear panels for railway coaches and EMUs, cable protection and management products, and electrical components, systems and sub-systems.
