Amrita Patel is an Indian businessperson and environmentalist, renowned for her leadership in India's dairy sector. She served as the Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) from 1998 to 2014, succeeding Verghese Kurien. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in implementing Operation Flood, transforming India into the world's largest producer of milk. Patel also initiated the National Dairy Plan to boost milk production. Beyond dairy, she has chaired the Foundation for Ecological Security and the Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute, focusing on environmental sustainability. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2001.
