Three years after Akash, Isha and Anant Ambani joined the Reliance Industries (RIL) board, the next generation is no longer shadowing chairman Mukesh Ambani, but leading three distinct growth engines. As Mukesh Ambani told shareholders during the recent AGM, the “generational transfer of day-to-day management” is almost complete. Akash has emerged as the standard bearer of RIL’s technology ambitions. As chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm and MD of the IPO-bound Jio Platforms (JPL), he is at the centre of what could become India’s biggest public issue. The proposed IPO is expected to raise around `37,000 crore at an estimated valuation of `12.2 lakh crore. Beyond telecom, he is also leading Reliance Intelligence, the group’s AI venture, being built through tie-ups with Google, Meta and NVIDIA. Isha, meanwhile, has been tasked with strengthening RIL’s retailing and consumer business. While overseeing Reliance Retail, which operates more than 20,000 stores, she is also building Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL) into a global FMCG company. RCPL has crossed `22,000 crore in revenue in just over three years and is targeting `1 lakh crore by FY30. Isha is also driving export ambitions of the FMCG business, reflecting the senior Ambani’s vision of creating globally competitive consumer brands. The youngest, Anant, leads RIL’s energy business, combining its traditional oil-to-chemicals operations with clean-energy ambitions. He oversees the 5,000-acre Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex at Jamnagar, where Reliance New Energy is building giga factories for solar PV modules, batteries, and green hydrogen. He is also responsible for the refining, petrochemicals and upstream businesses, while working towards the group’s target of becoming carbon neutral by 2035.
