Being at the confluence of digital, electronic, print, and events that form the India Today Group, Kalli Purie’s life at work is action packed. Whether it’s keeping a watchful eye on breaking news and covering elections on India Today TV and Aaj Tak or glancing through the glamorous side of life in Harper’s Bazaar India and Cosmopolitan, Purie knows how to steer her thoughts and vision towards award-winning properties. Her vision to bring the future closer to the present has brought in several innovative ways of news gathering and presentation. “Last year had been full of pathbreaking initiatives because it was the general elections year, which is like the Olympics for a news network. To start with, we launched the ‘Helicopter Shot,’ which was an election-based show where we used a helicopter to cover 100 constituencies, over 14,000 km, clocking over 75 flying hours,” she says. “On the AI frontier, after boldly unveiling Sana as India’s first AI news anchor, we ventured into ‘A Pop’ as the genre is now better known, with the launch of two groundbreaking AI Pop Stars, Aishan and Ruh, capturing the nation’s imagination.” Under Purie’s guidance, India Today Group’s community through WhatsApp channels also expanded. “We crossed 24 million on the Aaj Tak WhatsApp Channel alone, making it the world’s biggest news channel and India’s biggest WhatsApp channel across categories,” she says.
