About

As India’s regional content consumption booms, Kaviya Kalanithi Maran is steering Sun TV Network to find a niche. “There’s a strong demand, not only in Tamil and Telugu, but also in Malayalam, Kannada, and Marathi, where we have a strong audience,” she says. As attention spans shorten and micro-dramas gain ground, keeping up with the latest trends has worked for the company. She’s upbeat about AI. From reducing production timelines to automated dubbing and subtitling, and spinning around a treasure trove of legacy into 4K quality, AI allows access to a larger audience that “we weren’t able to target, at least in the timelines that we wanted”, she says. “There’s potential, and most importantly, operational efficiency and monetisation are easier with AI.” Then comes cricket. With the Sunrisers brand going global, she says cricket has become a year-round schedule. The group owns Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and Sunrisers Leeds. “It allows us to connect everything as one big puzzle,” says Maran.
