Apple Inc. has officially launched the iPhone 17e, widening its flagship iPhone 17 series with a more affordable option that borrows many core upgrades from the main models while keeping the price reasonable. The company also continues to push performance and connectivity enhancements across its devices with this release.

The iPhone 17e arrives at ₹64,900 in India (equivalent to about $599 in the U.S.) with 256GB of storage as the baseline—double what the previous ‘e’ model offered without raising the price point. Apple has positioned this as a value pick for users who want much of the iPhone 17 experience without the premium cost.

At the heart of the phone is Apple’s new A19 chip, built on advanced 3-nanometer process technology which handles both performance and efficiency such as everyday tasks and graphics-intensive apps.

Camera and display improvements

Photography is a key focus this generation. The iPhone 17e uses a 48-megapixel “Fusion” camera system that can shoot in full 48MP resolution or default 24MP files, giving users flexibility between detail and file size. The camera also enables optical-quality 2× telephoto through sensor cropping, which is a smart way to deliver zoom without a bulky lens. Dolby Vision-capable 4K video recording, spatial audio capture, and improved portrait depth mapping round out the imaging upgrades.

On the front is a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, supported by the new Ceramic Shield 2 glass. Apple says this iteration of Ceramic Shield offers better scratch resistance and reduced glare, making the panel tougher for daily use.

Connectivity, safety, and charging

The 17e marks the first time the affordable “e” tier gains MagSafe support, bringing it into Apple’s magnetic accessory ecosystem with Qi2-based wireless charging up to 15W. The phone also includes the C1X modem, promising faster and more efficient cellular connectivity compared with last generation.

In terms of safety, Apple has carried over several features from its flagship models, including Emergency SOS via satellite and location sharing when outside network coverage, along with Crash Detection. These are part of Apple’s broader push to integrate connectivity-based safety tools into its devices.

Software and ecosystem

The iPhone 17e will have the latest iOS 26, which Apple says brings deeper Apple Intelligence integration across apps from live translation in Messages and FaceTime to smarter system-wide experiences. Battery life remains competitive thanks to efficiency gains from the A19 and the new modem.

Availability

Pre-orders for the iPhone 17e will begin on March 4, 2026, with units hitting stores on March 11 in major markets. It will be available in black, white, and soft pink finishes.
