Apple launches 14-inch MacBook

Apple has launched the new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its latest M6 chip in India, with the laptop priced from ₹2,39,900. The company has opened pre-orders from October 28, with sales set to begin November 6 through Apple’s online store, Apple Store app, Apple retail stores and authorised resellers. The launch comes ahead of its “Pro and Tell” event, where the company is expected to showcase more of its latest Mac hardware.

The new MacBook Pro starts with 16GB of unified memory and 1TB of storage. Education pricing starts at ₹2,27,900. The laptop is available in Space Black and Silver.

Apple is positioning the new MacBook Pro as a machine aimed at students, business users, creators and developers, with the M6 chip bringing improvements in processing, graphics and on-device artificial intelligence.

“With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level, with a boost in CPU speed and graphics and even more powerful capabilities for on-device AI,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. “With its amazing battery life, remarkable Liquid Retina XDR display, and even faster connectivity, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 delivers a fantastic combination of performance, capability, and value.”

M6 chip, AI and other features

The M6 features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, with Neural Accelerators built into each GPU core. Apple claims the GPU delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance than the previous-generation M5, while on-device AI workloads can be up to 25% faster.

The chip also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, which Apple says can deliver up to 1.9 times faster performance than the M5 for AI workloads such as image generation and AI-powered image processing.

For users upgrading from an M1 MacBook Pro, Apple claims the gains are substantially larger, with up to 11 times faster graphics performance and up to 13 times faster AI performance.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro features a Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. A nano-texture display option is also available for users working in environments where reflections and glare can be an issue. Connectivity has also been upgraded, with support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The laptop includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack. It can support up to two external displays.

The laptop gets a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a three-microphone array and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio.

Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life, making this the longest battery life offered on a MacBook Pro, while fast charging can take the device to up to 50% in 30 minutes with a compatible higher-wattage USB-C power adapter. The new MacBook Pro also runs macOS 27, which brings Apple Intelligence features and the new Siri AI capabilities to the Mac. Apple says Siri can use personal context to help users find information across apps, while Visual Intelligence can be used to understand what is displayed on the screen.

The laptop retains Apple’s focus on recycled materials, with the enclosure made from 100% recycled aluminium. Apple says the device contains 45% recycled content overall.
