Indian business leaders Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Lakshmi N. Mittal join UN-backed AI for Good Global Commission

Indian industry leaders Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Bharti Mittal, and Lakshmi N. Mittal have been named founding members of the newly launched AI for Good Global Commission, a United Nations-backed initiative that aims to shape the future of artificial intelligence through collaboration between governments, businesses and international organisations.
Launched by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Commission brings together more than 40 founding members, which includes heads of state and government, industry CEOs and top executives, and Heads of UN agencies, to “help define practical pathways to strengthen trust, expand access and unlock AI's potential to solve real-world challenges at the speed the technology demands.”
“With 2.2 billion people still offline, one-quarter of the world is cut off from AI advancements. A key focus of the AI for Good Global Commission will be to bridge digital divides and help ensure that AI becomes a tool for solving global challenges, not deepening inequalities,” the statement read.
It is co-chaired by Paul Kagame and Marc Benioff, with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin serving as vice-chair.
The Commission consists of Accenture CEO Julie Sweet, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, and Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark. The leadership roster further includes Cohere CEO Aidan Gomez, Google president for research, labs, technology & society James Manyika, and Microsoft vice chair and president Brad Smith. Rounding out the group are Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, and Vodafone Group CEO Margherita Della Valle.
Highlighting the Commission’s objective, President Kagame said, “One thing is certain: technology is supposed to be a force for good, and we have a responsibility to use it accordingly. Let us work together to reduce inequality, and allow more and more of our citizens to benefit from the good AI can deliver to all of us.”
Benioff said, “The promise of AI is built on not only incredible opportunities for the growth of our economy, but on the foundation of trust that is required for our shared success.”
The Commission will hold its inaugural meeting during the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva from July 7-10, alongside the first UN-mandated Global Dialogue on AI Governance and the WSIS Forum 2026.
