Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the Galaxy Z TriFold, thereby reinforcing its footing in a segment where Chinese rivals like Huawei have held the majority market share.

The multi-fold smartphone, priced at about 3.59 million won ($2,440.17), is expected to be available for purchase in Korea on December 12 this year, followed by other markets, including China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the UAE.  The phone will be available in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2026.

The Galaxy Z Trifold will be a flagship model in a singular black colour with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage.

The device measures 12.9 millimetres thick when folded, making it slightly bigger than the two-fold Galaxy Z Fold6 at 12.1 mm and the latest Galaxy Z Fold7 at 8.9 mm. When unfolded, the screen performs similarly to three 6.5-inch smartphones across the 10-inch display. As per the release, users can use the screen with versatility — they can create across three different portrait-sized apps side-by-side without interruption, resize apps in multi-window to view the most important information clearly, or hold it vertically when reviewing documents for improved focus.

Samsung is also offering a standalone desktop mode-Samsung DeX, without a separate display. This means users can access up to four workspaces that can each run five apps simultaneously, and can also add a secondary screen in Extended Mode, which enables a seamless dual-screen experience with an external monitor.

Measuring 3.9 mm at its thinnest point, the Galaxy Z TriFold is powered by the customised Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a 200 MP camera, and will host the biggest battery—a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery system, placed in each of the three panels of the device for balanced power delivery and all-day endurance. The phone is combined with 45W super-fast charging, which means it can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes.

The phone is rated IP48 in terms of water resistance, based on lab test conditions for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes.

Samsung is launching its multi-fold flagship phone weeks before Apple is set to launch its fold offering, while also trying to cement itself as a competitor to Huawei. Huawei launched its second generation of its multi-fold Mate XTs in September this year, priced at 17,999 Chinese yuan ($2,520) and goes up to 21,999 yuan.
