The move marks a significant step in Pixxel's international expansion, strengthening its presence in the U.S. government market.

Bengaluru based planetary infrastructure company Pixxel has announced Pixxel Federal, its U.S. subsidiary, to deliver advanced Earth observation technologies, satellite mission systems, and geospatial intelligence capabilities to federal customers across civilian, defence, and intelligence agencies in that country. The move marks a significant step in Pixxel's international expansion, strengthening its presence in the U.S. government market.

Pixxel's growth follows its existing engagements with U.S. government agencies, including a contract through NASA's Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition Program and a Strategic Commercial Enhancements contract awarded by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). Pixxel Federal will build on these relationships to pursue new federal opportunities and strengthen the company's position in the U.S. space and geospatial intelligence market, the company stated.

“The U.S. government market represents a significant opportunity for Pixxel as we expand our capabilities beyond hyperspectral imaging into advanced sensing technologies, software, and satellite systems,” said Awais Ahmed, Founder and CEO of Pixxel. “Our work with NASA and the NRO has given us a strong foundation, and Pixxel Federal will enable us to work more closely with federal agencies, understand their mission requirements, and deliver solutions tailored to their needs. This is an important step in building Pixxel's long-term presence in the U.S. market.”

Allyson Jenkins, previously Vice President, Public Sector at Pixxel, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Pixxel Federal. Since joining Pixxel in January 2025, Jenkins, who brings 18 years of experience in national security and geospatial intelligence, including nine years with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, has led the company's U.S. government business and will now oversee Pixxel Federal's strategy, operations, and growth.

Pixxel Federal has also appointed three members to its Board of Directors: Lieutenant General Ray Palumbo, U.S. Army (Retired), former Director for Defense Intelligence at the Pentagon; Patrick M. Antkowiak, former Chief Strategy and Technology Officer at Northrop Grumman who currently serves as a member of the Department of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board; and Frank X. Avila, a former senior intelligence executive who held leadership roles at the CIA and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). Together, they bring decades of experience across aerospace, national security, technology, and geospatial intelligence.

Pixxel Federal will draw on the company's growing portfolio of hyperspectral satellites, Earth intelligence software, and satellite mission systems to support a broad range of government missions. By identifying materials through their unique spectral signatures, hyperspectral imaging can reveal details that conventional imagery may miss. Applications include camouflage detection, terrain characterisation, and identification of activities of interest for defence and intelligence missions, as well as critical mineral and rare earth element detection, environmental monitoring, and agriculture. Pixxel Federal also plans to establish an office in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to work more closely with government customers and partners.

“Hyperspectral data gives government users an information advantage, surfacing details that other sensors miss,” said Allyson Jenkins, CEO of Pixxel Federal. “Whether the mission is supporting the warfighter, locating rare earth deposits, or monitoring crop health, Pixxel Federal is built to deliver that intelligence where it’s needed, working closely with our customers to address their operational needs.”

The announcement follows Pixxel's $100 million Series C funding round, co-led by Temasek and Seraphim, which brought its total funding to $195 million. The investment is supporting the company's broader expansion across advanced sensing technologies, software, satellite systems, and manufacturing capabilities, as it scales its operations and presence in international markets.
