Of the 83,000 patents filed in FY23, 52.3% were filed by residents primarily led by educational institutions and individual patent filers, whereas 47.7% were filed by non-residents.
India received 61,573 patent applications in 2021, up from 56,771 in 2020. Almost 43% of the Indian patent applications were local, and filed by resident applicants.
