Ultraviolette forays into electric scooters, unveils new motorcycle

Electric motorcycle start-up Ultraviolette on Wednesday announced its foray into e-scooters, riding the high-performance e-motorbike company into the fast-growing mass market segment.

Among the new offerings are two mainstream products: electric scooter ‘Tesseract’ which comes with an introductory price of ₹1.2 lakh (ex-showroom) for the first 10,000 customers and electric motorcycle ‘Shockwave’ for an introductory price of ₹1.49 lakh for the first 1,000 customers.

Founded by Narayan Subramaniam and Niraj Rajmohan, the two-wheeler start-up currently sells only performance-oriented electric motorbikes.

Ultraviolette co-founder and CEO Subramaniam recently told Fortune India that Ultraviolette has vertically integrated its core EV technology. “We make our batteries and controllers in-house,” he said. “All of the R&D that has gone into battery and motors enables us and puts us in a very strong position to aggressively start getting into multiple other vehicle segments,” Subramaniam said.

Ultraviolette plans to get into four different segments in two-wheelers in the next two years, the Ultraviolette CEO said. “Our top-down approach has enabled us to harness the core technology that we have developed over the last seven years,” said Subramaniam.

The Bengaluru-based start-up said its new product portfolio is aimed at both the Indian and global markets. Ultraviolette is backed by Ferrari and Stellantis-backed majority stakeholder EXOR N.V., U.S. tech giant Qualcomm Ventures, Zoho Corporation, TVS Motor Company, and Speciale Invest.

The company has expanded its presence to over 13 cities. By 2025-26, the start-up aims to extend its reach to 50 cities across India, with a strategic focus on fast-paced global markets such as the U.K., Germany, Spain, Portugal, and France.

Tesseract features an integrated radar and dashcam, coupled with Omnisense mirrors, providing advanced safety technologies such as blind spot detection, lane change, overtaking assist, and real-time collision alerts. It is also equipped with traction control and dynamic regen for enhanced safety and optimising energy consumption. In addition, Tesseract boasts a 7-inch touchscreen TFT display, and multi-colour LED displays embedded in the ORVMs.
