The partnership allows commuters to book Delhi Metro tickets directly through the Rapido app via ONDC, aiming to make travel more seamless for millions in Delhi.
Mobility company Rapido has partnered with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to integrate Delhi Metro ticketing within its app, while also rolling out first and last-mile connectivity solutions for metro commuters in the capital.
“The metro is the heart of the city’s commute for over 70 lakh people daily. Our goal is to complement this public transport backbone by making first and last-mile travel safer, more affordable, and seamless,” said Aravind Sanka, CEO & co-founder of Rapido.
The partnership allows commuters to book Delhi Metro tickets directly through the Rapido app via ONDC, aiming to make travel more seamless for millions in Delhi. In addition, Rapido has set up dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones at select metro stations to improve the last-mile experience.
Rapido has introduced a flat fare of ₹25 for rides either to or from metro stations in Delhi. Additionally, the first ride to the metro station will be offered free for users to experience the service. “We are starting from a few stations and will gradually expand,” Sanka added.
The announcement also comes against the backdrop of Karnataka government's decision to ban bike taxis. Addressing the issue, Sanka said, “Regulations are evolving throughout the country. How things were 10 years ago is very different from how they are now. We are definitely looking forward to favourable policies in every state to work and partner with us.” He further added, “There are millions of people who are getting impacted by these small regulations and policies which are not in favour of millions of captains. At the same time, we are fighting for nobody but working to ensure that millions of people commute at a safer and affordable rate.”
Meanwhile, Delhi is Rapido’s largest market, with over 8 lakh customers using its services daily. Notably, 1 lakh of these trips are already linked to metro stations—either as the start or end point of a commute. “40% of our riders in Delhi are women, which is why we are also introducing women captains for women customers at select metro stations to ensure safety and inclusivity,” Sanka said.
Rapido claims to have completed over 200 crore rides since its inception a decade ago, with a fleet of more than 25 lakh captains generating ₹25,000 crore in cumulative earnings. Currently, 5 lakh rides across India either begin or end at metro stations every day.
Vibhor Jain, CEO at ONDC, highlighted the growing momentum behind mobility solutions on the network. “Delhi is already live, Kochi and Chennai are live, and Bengaluru will go live soon. Mumbai’s Metro Lines 1, 2A, 3, and 7 will also be integrated shortly,” Jain said. “This is not just about metro ticketing but about reimagining urban mobility through multimodal connectivity—be it metros, buses, or other forms of public transport.”
ONDC is also exploring partnerships in logistics and food delivery with Rapido. “The idea is to enable a single-click, point-to-point journey through multimodal integration,” he said.
Vikas Kumar, managing director of DMRC, called the initiative a “transformative step.” “First and last-mile connectivity has always been a major issue for metro commuters. This is the first time globally where a metro ticket and last-mile booking are integrated in a single app,” he said.
Kumar also noted the alignment of this partnership with DMRC’s broader goals of enhancing commuter experience. “With ONDC, urban mobility has been woven into the digital fabric of daily life. This is a benchmark for other metros to follow,” he added.
As part of the effort, Rapido is offering not just two-wheeler rides but also three-wheeler and taxi options to address diverse commuter needs.
